Lipscomb Cemetery, 61-2 Summary Report, page 18

Since there is a possibility that Lipscomb family slaves were buried with the plantation owners in the family cemetery, the 1880 census records for the area of the arsenal were checked for black Lipscomb families. It is assumed that some of them would have kept the surname, especially if the Lipscombs regarded their slaves as “family members” who could be buried in the cemetery with them. The 1880 listing below highlights the black Lipscomb families who lived on pre-arsenal land, as indicated by the neighboring presence of other families known to be living in that area at that time.
