Unnamed Cemetery, 62-4 Summary Report, page 9

Note that on the 8th, 9th, and 10th lines of the INDEX TO LANDS by G. W. Jones & Sons, Inc., there is a reference to American Asylum, Hartford. This is an unusual name for old Madison County land records, so the history of that institution's name was researched on the World Wide Web. It turned out that there was in fact such an institution, chartered initially in Hartford, Connecticut. Why Elijah Boardman deeded land to a Connecticut institution and then Richard Lipscomb would purchase land from that institution is an intriguing question. However, the nature of the institution holds some insights that possibly reflect back on Elijah Boardman and his neighboring landowner Nathaniel Terry. The history of the institution is inserted below, as downloaded from the website of the Full Text Documents Library of the 9 - (2307)
