being born in Alabama, but his age was given as 10 in 1850, meaning that he was born sometime in 1840 in this state.
There was no suitable match found in the 1840 census of Alabama or Tennessee for a John Woodward (or under the variant spelling of “Woodard”) born in Tennessee (or even born in Alabama) about 1813. Accordingly, there is no way to pursue the history of his line further back into time without some other type of record. However, his children's history can be examined in the years after 1850. The 1860 census record for John's widow Susan Woodward has been presented above. No census record was found for any of the Susan Woodward family in the 1870 census, anywhere in the United States.
