Timmons Cemetery, 89-1 Summary Report, page 8

Timmons Cemetery. Redstone Arsenal Madison Co. AL. Dec. 3. 2002 t /"?•"?* * it < g ■ Since John Timmons died in 1845, he is not listed in the 1850 census, which was the first in the United States to list every member's name in each household and to record the place of birth. In fact, John and his wife, Catherine (“Kittie”) Quay Finch Timmons (1808 - 1840) plus 4 of their children had passed on by the time of the 1850 census, leaving their son William H. Timmons as a young orphan. William was “taken in” for a time by the nearby Hardie and Simpson families, but later his maternal “old maid” aunt Margaret L. Finch came to run the Timmons household until he reached adulthood. Even after that, she stayed on as a part of William's family until her death in 1899, as reflected in the 1880 census record below. 8 - (2957)
