William H. Timmons was not found in any household in the 1850 census of Alabama. However, by 1860 he was shown in a household of Madison County with his aunt Margaret listed as head of the household. The ages shown in 1880 and 1860 for Margaret are discrepant, which is not at all unusual in census records. The 1860 record indicates that she was born in South Carolina in 1815 or 1811, depending upon the interpretation of the age shown as either 45 or 48. The 1880 census shows that she was born in South Carolina in 1795. She was not found at all in the 1870 census.
