Timmons Cemetery, 89-1 Summary Report, page 65

Another example of the prominence of John Timmons in the community was his appointment in April of 1839, along with Hugh Smith, to be an “Overseer of the Poor in the muster beat commanded by Captain Ballinger”. These appointments were made by the “County Commissioners of Roads and Revenue” to men chosen to provide for widows, orphans, and otherwise indigent persons in their areas of responsibility. The page image below shows where the Commissioners Court of Roads and Revenue reimbursed $10 to John Timmons and Hughy Smith for 6 months of care to the 13-year-old “deaf and dumb” boy of Nancy Walker. 65 - (3014)
