Timmons Cemetery, 89-1 Summary Report, page 95

The Meriwether A. Lewis that attested to the perishable property inventory above was a distant cousin (but contemporary, both in time and place in Virginia) to the famed explorer of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. The local Meriwether Lewis lived just northwest of the town of Triana, having a plantation where the Boeing facility is now located, between the runways of the Huntsville - Madison County International Airport. His tombstone is located in the old Triana City Cemetery. Several of his descendants moved to the town of Madison and are buried in the Lewis family plot in the old section of the Madison City Cemetery. As William Hardie Timmons grew, he obviously required some cash in hand to enjoy life. Below is one of the many receipts made to the estate administrators to account for William's “pocket change”. As one can see, William was well covered with such funds, considering the value of money at the time. 95 - (3044)
