Madison County Deed Book KK, pages 627 - 628, records the sale in 1869 by William Timmons of land to William Joiner, Elisha Joiner, and James Timmons -- all of whom were former slaves who had probably worked the same 55 acres that he sold to them for $637.98 ($11.60 per acre).
